Celebrating our Founder: Eleanor King Hookham

Come celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Elmhurst Art Museum with the exhibition: Celebrating our Founder: Eleanor King Hookham. This show, which runs through Jan. 16, 2023, honors the museum’s founder, whose career spanned 88 years. McGrath Elmhurst Toyota is proud to have this distinguished art museum in our community. We encourage you to attend this exhibition at the McCormick House.

Known professionally as El King, Hookham was an educator and artist who showed her work internationally. She played a crucial role in establishing the Elmhurst Art Museum and gaining support from the community. She worked tirelessly to secure Mies van der Rohe’s McCormick House as the foundation of the new arts complex. Hookham finally saw her dream come to life at the museum’s ribbon-cutting ceremony in 1997.

The McCormick House will display Hookham’s artwork from the museum’s collection, along with photographs and documents highlighting her efforts in preserving the historic home for future museum visitors. There’s also historical information provided by Ray and Ann Fick, former residents of the house.

The works presented in Celebrating our Founder: Eleanor King Hookham showcases the artist’s work in a range of mediums, including watercolors, oil paintings, and her signature ink and coffee drawings. This is a rare opportunity to view the trailblazing creations of an internationally renowned artist. Don’t miss it!
