Discover 3D Printing
The Elmhurst Public Library presents a virtual class on 3D Printing on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. This Zoom event will teach attendees the basics of 3D printing and describe the types of projects that can be designed and printed at the library’s Makery. We at McGrath Elmhurst Toyota are looking forward to this informative program. 3D printing allows people to produce solid, three-dimensional objects from a digital file. To achieve this, a special printer adds together many layers of building material, such as wax or plastic, until the intended object is fully formed. The process, sometimes called additive manufacturing, is fast, cost-effective, and creates minimal waste.
American industries use 3D printing to create a wide range of prototypes and products. Examples of these products include:
- Eyeglasses, safety goggles, shoes, furniture, and other consumer products
- Industrial tools and functional end-use parts
- Automotive parts for cars and trucks
- Dental implants, crowns and retainers
- Orthopedic prosthetics and braces
- Rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry pieces
- Film production props
- Aerospace parts for planes and spacecraft
- Musical instruments
3D printing can be used to manufacture almost any type of object. All you need is a 3D model, which you can download from a 3D library or design yourself, and access to a 3D printer. The library’s 3D Printing class will teach you the basics of the process and show you the vast array of projects you can create at the Makery.
