Discover Mars at Roving the Red Planet

You’ll have fun when you experience Roving the Red Planet on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at 7 p.m. The Elmhurst Public Library presents this virtual Zoom event. You’ll be transported to Mars and learn many intriguing facts as you explore the surface of the planet. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we appreciate the many excellent virtual programs offered by the Elmhurst Public Library. This presentation promises to be an exciting and educational experience that’s suitable for adults and children.

There are currently six United States spacecraft either orbiting Mars or exploring the surface of the planet. If all goes well, the new Perseverance rover will make its landing on Feb. 18. Perseverance is part of Nasa’s Mars 2020 mission, with the primary job of searching for signs of ancient Martian life and transporting soil and rock samples back to Earth.

Hosted by Michelle Nichols, Roving the Red Planet will explain the history of Mars exploration and discuss what we have learned from the current robotic mission. Nichols is Director of Public Observing at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, where she has worked since 1995. She heads the Planetarium’s telescope, observatory, and public sky observing events and activities. Nichols has been an advisor for numerous children’s books, including the Scholastic News Nonfiction Readers series. She is the author of Astronomy Lab for Kids, published in 2016.

Nichols holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.

Roving the Red Planet is suitable for adults and children grades 6-12.
