Discover the Art of Domestic Space at Jan Tichy: Reflectance
The Elmhurst Art Museum presents Jan Tichy: Reflectance, an experiential art installation that runs through May 29, 2022. The exhibition, installed in the McCormick House, examines the historic home, focusing on the use of domestic space as “an environment of movement, light, activity and wonder.” Using the house’s south-facing window, architectural components, photographic materials, electronic and mechanical components, and various found objects, the artist explores the interaction of the sun and elements of the home. Tichy transforms the McCormick House from a static space to a truly interactive structure. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re sure Jan Tichy: Reflectance will be a fascinating and enjoyable exhibition.
Jan Tichy’s art often combines different media, including architecture, sculpture, photography, audio and video. He uses video projections to create mental and physical spaces that explore artistic ideas such as concealment and obscurity. Tichy’s photographic leitmotifs grow from his formal and minimalist visual sensibilities. The resulting installations contain narratives that are left open to the interpretation of the viewer.
Born in Prague, Tichy moved to Israel in the mid-1990s, where he attended The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He studied photography in that city’s Musrara School of Photography. This was followed by advanced art studies at Tel Aviv’s Bezalel Academy. In 2007, Tichy moved to Chicago, where he earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Tichy has exhibited at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art and the Center for Contemporary Art-Tel Aviv. Closer to home, he has had exhibitions at Chicago’s Spertus Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art. His work is represented in museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
