Don’t Miss Victory at Home: 1941-1945 – Elmhurst Toyota Dealer

The Elmhurst History Museum presents Victory at Home: 1941-1945, an exhibit running through Aug. 18, 2024. This exhibition delves into the pivotal role American civilians played on the home front during World War II, focusing on their contributions to the war effort through rationing, women joining the workforce, increased war production, and more. The exhibit is located at the historic Glos Mansion, which served as a WWII ration board office and now hosts the museum. At Elmhurst Toyota, we welcome the opportunity to explore this important time in history.

Visitors to Victory at Home: 1941-1945 will explore a range of interactive and immersive displays, including artifacts, photographs, audio-video stations, journals, uniforms, and WWII posters. These exhibits highlight the sacrifices and services of Americans, especially those from Elmhurst and the broader Chicagoland area, in supporting the war effort. The exhibition aims to educate visitors on the resilience and resourcefulness of that generation and its relevance to current events.

In addition to the main exhibit, the museum is organizing a series of public programming events, such as gallery talks, cooking classes themed around the 1940s, lectures, and even a visit from the Rockford Peaches Vintage Baseball Club. Moreover, in collaboration with Operation Support Our Troops – America, the museum will collect supplies and letters to send care packages to troops overseas during the exhibition’s tenure.
