Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra Presents Bach’s St. John Passion

Join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra as it presents Bach’s St. John Passion. One of the season’s highlights, this concert takes place on Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Bach’s St. John Passion falls under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop, who will lead the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, and an exceptional cast of soloists. “With the combined power of the ESO and the Apollo Chorus, along with five distinguished soloists who have devoted much of their artistic lives to this music, our listeners will hear a performance of utmost passion and musical excellence,” said Alltop.

The St. John Passion is an oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach, written during the composer’s first year as director of church music in Leipzig. The piece was initially performed on April 7, 1724, at Good Friday Vespers at the St. Nicholas Church. Bach revised the work several times over the following 25 years.

The audience is welcome to join Dr. Ted Hatmaker’s lively and informative discussion, Behind the Music Stand, at 5:45 p.m. before the concert.

Admission:
Single tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors 65 and older, and $12 for students (must be at least 12 years of age). All tickets can be purchased on the ESO website or by phone. The ESO offers group and family rates.

All ESO attendees are required to wear masks, regardless of age or vaccination status. Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church requires audience members to provide proof of vaccination or sign a waiver at the door.
