The Elmhurst Symphony Concert: French Connections offers a wonderful afternoon of music on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at 3 p.m. This second concert of the symphony’s 2018/2019 year includes the work of French composers Georges Bizet, Camille Saint-Saëns and Frédéric Chopin. Two acclaimed guest musicians, Michael Surratt and Adam Nieman, are featured in the concert. All of us at Elmhurst Toyota appreciate the Elmhurst Symphony’s 54 years of providing our community with beautiful music, and we encourage you to attend this performance.

Elmhurst Symphony Concert - French ConnectionsThe Elmhurst Symphony Concert: French Connections program includes Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor,” Saint-Saëns’ “Symphony No. 3” and Bizet’s “Carmen Suite No. 1.” In honor of Veteran’s Day, the symphony will also perform the Armed Forces Salute. This composition includes songs associated with all five branches of the United States military.

Special guest pianist Adam Nieman performs Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor” with the symphony. Nieman is a brilliant musician who made his professional debut at just 11 years old. He performs internationally at chamber music festivals and concerts. Nieman is a member of the faculty at the Chicago College of Performing Arts.

Organist and guest musician Michael Surratt performs on Saint-Saëns’ “Symphony No. 3,” also known as the Organ Symphony. Surratt has played the organ in churches since he was 12 and he has performed throughout the Midwest as well as on European tours.

Bizet’s “Carmen Suite No. 1” is the final composition with a French connection at the concert. Part of Bizet’s 1875 opera, “Carmen,” the suite includes six songs.
