Family Day at the Museum Introduces Kids to Art – Elmhurst Toyota Dealer

August 15th, 2017 by

At Elmhurst Toyota, we believe art should be both educational and fun. And there’s no better way introduce your kids to art than Family Day at the Museum, which will be held at the Elmhurst Art Museum on August 26. This special day features a number of fun events, including art projects for the kids in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition, The Human Touch.

The exhibition, which includes artwork from the RBC Wealth Management Art Collection, is open to the public until August 27. It’s more than just an art exhibit; it honors people and their diversity. Most of all, it celebrates modern life in its myriad forms. Artists represented in the exhibition include Kehinde Wiley, Carrie Mae Weems, Kerry James Marshall, Nan Goldin, Chuck Close, and Roy Lichtenstein

While the entire RBC Collection encompasses in excess of 400 works of art, the Human Touch features over 40 specially selected works. You’ll find drawings, paintings, prints, photography and sculpture.

The exhibition looks at how the human form reflects society. According to curator Don McNeil, the human form is the most direct way to explore the longstanding need to comprehend the human condition. “The human figure makes the collection accessible yet thought-provoking; entertaining yet challenging; timeless yet relevant. It shows who we are and how we live,” he said.

The works on display come from all ends of the artistic spectrum, from realism to abstract and from thoughtful to lighthearted. Some are portraits that provide an intimate look at the subject, while others are a vehicle for storytelling. But the common thread running through The Human Touch is the exploration of concepts and experiences we all share.
