Family Day: Cubism Portraits – Elmhurst Toyota Dealer

The Elmhurst Art Museum is set to host Family Day: Cubism Portraits on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This exciting event offers families a hands-on experience to dive deep into the world of Cubism, a revolutionary art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso. Participants can craft their own fragmented and abstract portrait sculptures using oil pastels and 3D materials. This interactive workshop aligns with the museum’s exhibition, Picasso: Fifty Years Later. Running through Jan. 7, 2024, this exhibition is among the worldwide events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death. Showcasing nearly 25 works of Picasso sprawled across multiple galleries, it offers a glimpse into this iconic artist’s profound influence and enduring legacy.

A Spanish painter and sculptor, Picasso remains one of the most influential figures in 20th-century art. He’s best known for creating the Cubist movement along with Georges Braque. Cubism broke away from centuries of tradition by rejecting the idea that art should copy nature. Instead, Picasso and his contemporaries fragmented objects into geometric shapes, offering multiple viewpoints simultaneously and reinventing traditional portraiture.
