Golf for Art’s Sake at Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9

Don’t miss Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9, an art installation in the form of a miniature golf course at the Elmhurst Art Museum. This golf-themed artwork exhibit runs from July 7 through Sept. 26, 2021. The museum commissioned a playable two-part miniature golf course that’s also a work of art created by national and local artists. Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9 is a reimagining of the renowned 1988 exhibition, Par Excellence, shown at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The original Par Excellence exhibit was created by Chicago artist Mike O’Brien. It received acclaim from local and national media, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, CNN and others. The original exhibit was so successful, it was reborn as a commercial miniature golf course called ArtGolf. Par Excellence Redux: The Front 9 will include a tribute to the original art installation with a display of photos, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and a recreation of one of the original holes by designer Annalee Koehn.

The custom-built miniature golf course is divided into two exhibits: The Front 9, which debuts in the summer of 2021, and The Back 9, which will be available in the fall.
