Help End Hunger at Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and that means it’s time for the 39th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot. The event takes place in downtown Elmhurst and starts at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2023. This 5K fun run is for individuals, families, and groups. All proceeds go to worthy causes here in DuPage County. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re grateful for the organizers of this run. They have provided more than 4 million meals to those in need since the race began in 1984.

Dan Gibbons Turkey TrotThe genesis of the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot occurred in 1983 when Dan Gibbons heard WGN radio personality Ed Schwartz announce that the City of Chicago was spending $300,000 on New Year’s Eve fireworks. Gibbons thought that money would be better spent on feeding individuals and families in need.

Dan and his friends started a 5K race to help provide needy families in DuPage County with food during the holiday season. The first race included 74 runners and raised $520. Today, the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving tradition in Elmhurst. To date, the event has raised approximately $4 million to benefit local charity organizations.

Thursday, Nov. 24, 2023. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m.
