In Pursuit of Happiness: Immigrants in Our Communities is a new exhibit presented by the Elmhurst History Museum that runs through May 14, 2023. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the personal stories and experiences of immigrants and their descendants in the DuPage County area, as told through their own words, photographs, and other treasures. The United States is a nation of immigrants, with over 40 million people born outside the country. While Chicago has long been a destination for immigrants seeking work, the suburbs have recently become home to an even more diverse population of foreign-born individuals. Visitors to In Pursuit of Happiness: Immigrants in Our Communities will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs many immigrants face as they strive to forge a new identity in this country. Whether you’re a newcomer to DuPage County or a lifelong resident, this exhibit is sure to provide an illuminating and thought-provoking look at the rich diversity of our community.

In Pursuit of Happiness: Immigrants in Our Communities offers a comprehensive look at the complex and often challenging experience of immigrating to the United States. Through a combination of first-person accounts, historical information, and interactive displays, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the many factors that shape the immigrant experience. The exhibit covers a wide range of topics, from the practical aspects of obtaining citizenship to the emotional challenges of adapting to a new country and culture.
