Join the Ukulele Circle

If you’ve ever considered learning to play the ukulele, then Ukulele Circle at the Elmhurst Public Library is for you. Participants will learn a few chords, play a song or two, and listen to ukulele music that ranges from folk to rock. The event takes place on Thursday, Sept. 22, and will be led by Michael Pavlik, director of bands at York Community High School. We’ve been ukulele fans at McGrath Elmhurst Toyota since we learned that George Harrison loved this tiny string instrument.

A ukulele is a small, four-stringed instrument that originated in Hawaii. It’s sometimes referred to as a “mini guitar” because of its size and shape. Ukuleles come in various shapes and sizes, and they can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, plastic or metal. They’re typically tuned to GCEA, but ukuleles are also tuned to other scales.

Ukuleles are a great choice for beginners because they’re affordable and easy to learn how to play. In fact, many people learn how to play the ukulele before they play the guitar.

It’s thought that the ukulele was first introduced to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants in the 1800s. The name “ukulele” roughly translates as “jumping flea,” This is because the fingers of early ukulele players would move so quickly across the strings that it looked like a jumping flea.

The ukulele’s popularity took off in the early 20th century when Hawaiian music began to gain popularity. And today, the ukulele is considered to be one of the world’s most popular instruments.

If you’re thinking of picking up a ukulele, there are a few different types to choose from. The first type is the soprano ukulele. This is the smallest and most popular type of ukulele. It has a high pitch and is excellent for beginners. Next up is the concert ukulele. It’s a bit bigger than the soprano, with a richer sound. It’s perfect for intermediate players. Then we have the tenor ukulele, which is even bigger than the concert model and has an even richer sound. This is perfect for advanced players. Finally, we have the baritone ukulele. This is the largest type of ukulele and has a low pitch. It’s great for experienced players who want to explore new sounds.

Playing the ukulele is a great way to relax and de-stress. It’s a fun and social instrument, and once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to play all sorts of tunes.
