Whether you’re a beginning musician or a seasoned music maker who wants to learn how to create tunes on the Mac, you’ll want to join the Elmhurst Public Library for its presentation of Learn to Make Music with GarageBand for Mac. This virtual Zoom event takes place on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 2 p.m. This software application allows users to create audio projects with vocals, instruments and loops. Here at McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re impressed and grateful for the many Zoom presentations.

Learn to Make Music with GarageBand for MacApple first sold GarageBand in 2004. Steve Jobs announced the software in his keynote speech at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on January 6, 2004. Musician John Mayer assisted with the demonstration. There are versions for macOS, iPadOS and iOS.

The software allows users to create music utilizing a variety of realistic, sampled instruments and software modeled synthesizers. It provides the ability to compose music and play live using a MIDI keyboard connected to the computer. In addition, Garage Band includes the ability to download music lessons by well-known musicians, including Sting, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, John Fogarty, John Legend and more.

GarageBand is suitable for anyone to use, from kids to veteran sound engineers. It allows users to create music that sounds professional enough for radio play. Some musicians have recorded entire albums using the software.

You’ll need a Mac to use GarageBand, and the app is available for free. If you’re ready to start making music, you won’t want to miss the Elmhurst Public Library’s presentation of Learn to Make Music with GarageBand for Mac. Who knows, you might be the next musician to hit the big time!
