Music Crash Course: Conducting 101

If you’ve ever wondered what conductors do and how they can lead an orchestra by waving a baton, you’ll want to check out Music Crash Course: Conducting 101. The Elmhurst Public Library presents this hybrid mini-course on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. You’ll learn how conductors are able to lead musicians using non-verbal communication. There are even some simple conducting patterns you can try at home. Here at McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re in awe of the many programs the library puts on for the benefit of the community.

Conductors have several roles. They’re responsible for leading an orchestra and making sure the musicians are playing together as one cohesive unit. They must also keep the tempo steady. Conductors are responsible for creating the mood and atmosphere of a performance and for ensuring that the audience enjoys the experience. In short, a conductor is like a director of a play — they’re in charge of everything that happens on stage.

A music conductor also needs to be able to set the mood and convey emotion through their gestures. They need to have a deep understanding of the music they’re conducting and be able to communicate with the musicians.

If you decide you’d like to become a conductor after attending Music Crash Course: Conducting 101, you’ll need to have some serious musical skills. It takes a lot of experience and knowledge. You’ll need to be able to read music fluently and have a deep understanding of different genres and styles of music. But conducting isn’t just about being a musical genius. You also must have the ability to lead and motivate people. While it’s not an easy career to break into, it’s possible with the right training and preparation.
