Rev. Dr. William Barber to Speak

In recognition of Black History Month, Benedictine University hosts a visit from Rev. Dr. William Barber II on Feb. 10, from 2-3 p.m. McGrath Elmhurst Toyota urges the community to attend this event in Lisle, which promises to be both informative and enlightening.

Rev. Dr. William Barber II is a prominent pastor and social justice advocate widely regarded for his efforts in combatting systemic racism and poverty. He established the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at Yale Divinity School. Throughout his career, Rev. Dr. Barber has been a relentless champion for the underrepresented and oppressed, stirring countless individuals through his enthusiasm and dedication to building a more fair and equal society. His speeches and sermons are marked by a potent fusion of religious and political conviction. They have left a lasting impact on those who have heard them, establishing him as one of the most influential and inspiring voices for social progress.

Black History Month is an annual celebration in the United States aimed at acknowledging and appreciating the achievements and impact made by African Americans on American history and culture. The observance occurs every February and was initially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976. Various activities and events are held throughout the country this month, paying homage to African Americans’ legacy and culture while raising awareness about the ongoing pursuit of racial justice and equality.
