Rock Out with Freebyrd
Rock out with Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band Freebyrd at Elmhurst American Legion Post 187 on Aug. 14, 2021, at 7 p.m. This concert will benefit both the Elmhurst American Legion and the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re looking forward to this rockin’ performance, and we hope you have the opportunity to check it out.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is a legendary Florida rock group best known for popularizing the Southern rock genre with hit songs such as “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama.” In 1977, three band members were killed in a plane crash, causing the group to disband. However, surviving members reunited in 1987, and a version of the band still tours and records music. The group has sold more than 28 million records in the United States and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
Freebyrd is a professional tribute band that recreates the sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd for an authentic Southern rock experience. Band members Dave Nickrand, Ken Erickson, Chris McPherson, Mandy Bajek Harnack, Mitch Wierzgac and Scott Tomeczko play with heart and soul and strive to deliver a memorable show from start to finish. Their repertoire includes “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Call Me the Breeze,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “Simple Man,” “Tuesday’s Gone,” “That Smell,” “Saturday Night Special,” “Free Bird,” “What’s Your Name?” and many more.
The Freebyrd concert, sponsored by Community Bank of Elmhurst, will be staged in Post 187’s Normandy Banquet Room, and concertgoers will have access to the adjacent indoor bar and outdoor meeting area. A $10 tax-deductible cover charge at the door will raise money for the ECCI Centennial Celebration NFP’sCivic Hall of Fame Public Memorial Fund. Food and drink sales will benefit the Legion.
