Stoned Right Out of My Mind: Seven Other Dwarfs

You still have time to see the latest exhibit at the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild Gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum. Stoned Right Out of My Mind: Seven Other Dwarfs features selected works by sculptor Ted Strandt and runs through April 29, 2022. The work explores Strandt’s connection to his ancestral homeland of the town of Skellerup on the island of Fyn in Denmark. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we believe this will be a captivating display of talent. We hope everyone ha a chance to head out to the Elmhurst Art Museum to check it out.

According to Strandt, the show is the story of the DNA handed down from his maternal grandmother, whose father was a stone cutter. Strandt’s great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather were also stone cutters. “Like a sea turtle who is drawn to the beach where he was born, I found myself applying for work in a monument shop, where I was hired,” he said.

While in Denmark, Strandt felt a physical and metaphysical connection. The physical connection occurred during a visit to the ancestral farm that was home to generations of stone cutters who came before him. The metaphysical connection came when he visited the Jelling Stones. “It was here that I ran my hand over the Rune Stones that were carved during the Viking Age as a tribute to King Gorm the Old and his wife Thyra,” he said. Strandt felt connected to the carver of the stones.

At Stoned Right Out of My Mind: Seven Other Dwarfs, visitors can enjoy a collection of Strandt’s hand-carved, miniature statues.
