The McCormick House Tour

The McCormick House Tour at the Elmhurst Art Museum is a unique opportunity to see inside one of the city’s most significant homes. The tour, which takes place on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., is given by docents who are passionate about the history of the house and its inhabitants. The McCormick House is a single-family house designed by Mies van der Rohe for Robert Hall McCormick III, a member of one of Chicago’s most prominent families, and his wife, the poet Isabella Gardner. Built in 1952, the McCormick House is one of three residences designed and built by Mies in the United States. It’s one of two that are open to the public. The tour of the McCormick House offers visitors a rare opportunity to see inside this iconic structure and learn about the history of the family who once lived there.

Touring the McCormick House is an immersive experience that takes visitors back in time to see how one of Elmhurst’s most prominent families lived. The house has been restored to its original condition and is decorated with period furniture and artifacts. When you take the McCormick House Tour, you’re sure to learn a lot about the McCormick family and the history of Elmhurst. The tour experience is fascinating and informative, and the house itself is beautiful and interesting inside and out.

After the tour, you can view the current art installation by Jan Tichy, which invites visitors to explore this domestic space as “an environment of movement, light, activity, and wonder.”
