The Power of Story with Colson Whitehead – Elmhurst Toyota Dealer

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at 7 p.m., the Elmhurst Public Library hosts The Power of Story with Colson Whitehead, a virtual Zoom event. Colson Whitehead has earned significant acclaim as a New York Times bestselling author. He’s been widely recognized for novels such as “The Underground Railroad,” which captured readers’ imaginations and revisited a critical period in American history with a fresh, riveting perspective. “Harlem Shuffle” navigates the blurred lines of morality and justice in a tale set against the backdrop of 1960s Harlem. His latest release, “Crook Manifesto,” offers a humorously bleak depiction of a city in turmoil while subtly exploring the essence of family.

Whitehead’s work, spanning reviews, essays, and fiction, has been published in the New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Harper’s, and Granta. His awards include the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction, a MacArthur Fellowship, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2023, President Biden presented Whitehead with the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal. He has taught at Princeton University, Columbia University, and Brooklyn College and served as a Writer-in-Residence at Vassar College, the University of Wyoming, and the University of Richmond. He calls New York City home.
