Together We Cannot Fail: Overcoming the Great Depression is the Elmhurst History Museum’s current exhibition. The exhibit, which runs through May 2, 2021, examines how residents of Chicago suburbs such as Elmhurst confronted the many challenges of life during the Great Depression. At McGrath Elmhurst Toyota, we’re proud of the Elmhurst History Museum’s efforts to keep our community’s history alive. We hope you get a chance to attend this exhibition.

Together We Cannot Fail - Overcoming the Great DepressionTogether We Cannot Fail: Overcoming the Great Depression explores how American and local residents pulled together to assist each other while the economy was being rebuilt. Museum visitors will learn about the federal programs available at the time, such as the WPA and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The exhibit features photographs of a local CCC camp, a video of Elmhurst’s 1936 centennial parade, objects from the 1938-39 Century of Progress Exposition, and a lot more!

The exhibit’s name comes from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first radio address to the country. At the end of his March 1933 talk, President Roosevelt told the radio audience, “Together we cannot fail.”
