Violinist Sylvia Pine at Music at Bethel – Elmhurst Toyota Dealer

The Music at Bethel concert series is thrilled to showcase the extraordinary talent of 11-year-old violinist and singer Sylvia Pine. Her performance will captivate the audience at the Bethel United Church of Christ in Elmhurst on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 7 p.m. Under the guiding hand of Artistic Director Jeffrey Panko, who will accompany the young prodigy on the piano, the evening promises to deliver an unforgettable musical experience. Sylvia PineSylvia Pine, an Illinois-based violinist, singer, and composer, has already made a significant mark in the music world at just 11 years old. Beginning her violin studies at age two, she studied under the tutelage of Isabelle Rozendaal and Davis King. She has won first prize in over 40 international competitions, including the Young Maestro International Competition, which led to a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2022. Her other notable awards include winning the Rome International Music Competition and the London Young Musician, among many others​​.

Sylvia’s musical prowess extends beyond her violin performance. She is also an aspiring composer who has written dozens of works, including a brass quintet performed by members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Sylvia’s first major composition was a theme and variations for solo violin called The Glow of the Lamp. She also recently penned a string orchestra piece, Rising Storm, performed by multiple orchestras across the United States. She’s currently working on a commission to write an etude book and has composed in various styles, including Scottish fiddle tunes and American fiddle waltzes. Sylvia has expressed her desire for her pieces to evoke emotion and have meaningful impacts on listeners​​.

In addition to her violin and composition skills, Sylvia studies baroque and renaissance violin, medieval rebec, American old-time fiddling, Scottish fiddling, electric rock violin, jazz improv, music theory, piano, and voice. She is also a member of the Chicago Youth Concert Orchestra and the Chicago Children’s Choir. Her ultimate dream is to compose and sing in an opera​​.
